Pay The Piper Saturday, 9/20

Rock? Jam Band? Reggae? Whatever you are in the moods for, these guys have it in their playlist. From their website:

Pay The Piper is a New England based band that was formed in March of 2005 in Plymouth, NH. Its members blend a smooth and eclectic style of funk, rock, and reggae. PTP's on stage energy, catchy songs, improvisational range, and tight covers keep the crowd dancing all night long.

The band has roots at Plymouth State University where they started off playing house party’s and other college events. Over the past few years they have been playing shows all over the North East. The Piper merges reggae, rock, and funk to amass an arsenal of grooves to stimulate the senses. The band performs an illustrious amount of original material as well as fan favorite covers. The band has been creating a huge buzz throughout New England and is constantly playing new venues to spread the word. The band released their first EP “The Life and Times of Mel Fishland” in 2005 featuring “Beantown” and “Pine tree”. They just finished up their long awaited studio effort “Get Some”. PTP has a strong loyal fan base that brings energy everywhere they go. Pay the Piper has grown enormously in its first two years and is always looking to play a new show and brew up a new PTP supporter.

Coming up this weekend

OK - So I can hardly believe that almost a month has gone by since the last time I was here! I guess we were so busy getting kids ready for school and enjoying those last warm, sunny boating and camping days that the time just flew by...

Coming up tonight (!) is another great show with Sweet Melissa and Chris Stovall Brown. If you feel like kicking back with a pint and some friends, or if you want to dance the night away, these guys are sure to satisfy.

Sweet Melissa With Chris "Stovall" Brown TONIGHT after the Med Hedz kick off the Jimmy Gahan Foundation Benefit!!

There is a lot going on at The Pub this weekend! It is time again for our big benefit for the Jimmy Gahan Foundation (www.jimmygahan.org/) . It is hard to believe that this is the 6th year for this event. Through the tireless work of the Gahan family and countless friends and volunteers, over $115,000 has been raised for scholarships and gifts to youth sports and youth activities in several communities including Falmouth, Mashpee & Dudley, Massachusetts.
2008 could be the biggest fundraiser yet with donations of signed baseballs, art, restaurant certificates, antiques and jewelry.

This event kicks off this afternoon with the great local entertainers The Med Hedz. There will be food available and the preview of the silent auction items will begin about 5pm.

Luke James and the Firewater Band

OK - so this weekend's amazing line up continues tonight with local favorites Luke James and the Firewater band.

They describe themselves as playing "...a scorching fusion of reggae bounce, soul sensiblity, hip hop delivery and punk rock energy. They are simply the most exciting original band on Cape Cod."

And from the promo for their excellent album, Absolutely:

"Luke James has been writing songs pretty much since he could talk. He spent a few years making beats and producing local rappers on the Cape, while secretly writing his own songs. When he finally got the nerve to sing them at a local open mic the response blew him away. Before he knew it he was playing shows and recording with a band he put together. After the first line up broke up Luke focused on keeping his music out there by selling a compilation CD of him and other local artists and performing solo, the way he started. It was only a matter of time before he found himself again surrounded by insanely talented musicians and playing in a band again. This album is the product. They are a Cape Cod based band that plays in Boston and the surrounding areas but looking to expand around the world. Enjoy."

Special Appearance By Spiritual Rez on Thursday!!

I can't wait to see these guys (and girls!) live at Grumpy's on Thursday. We are so fortunate to have them play a rare Cape appearance.

Sprung from the basements of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA in 2003, Spiritual Rez, known for their unique sound and high-energy live performances, have been writing music, touring tirelessly, and just independantly released their second album "Rising In The East". Not just another Berklee bred reggae ensemble, Spiritual Rez combines raw energy with funk melodies and rhythmic harmonies to create a full, lush and unique sound. Rez has played with the likes of Gregory Isaacs, Israel Vibration, The Skatalites, the late Joseph Hill and Culture, S.O.J.A., and even played sold out shows with Jimmy Buffet. Spiritual Rez is poised to be at the forefront of Boston reggae.
