Special Appearance By Spiritual Rez on Thursday!!

Infectious. Soulful. Reggae. Funk. Horns. Really? What else do you need?

I can't wait to see these guys (and girls!) live at Grumpy's on Thursday. We are so fortunate to have them play a rare Cape appearance.

Sprung from the basements of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA in 2003, Spiritual Rez, known for their unique sound and high-energy live performances, have been writing music, touring tirelessly, and just independantly released their second album "Rising In The East". Not just another Berklee bred reggae ensemble, Spiritual Rez combines raw energy with funk melodies and rhythmic harmonies to create a full, lush and unique sound. Rez has played with the likes of Gregory Isaacs, Israel Vibration, The Skatalites, the late Joseph Hill and Culture, S.O.J.A., and even played sold out shows with Jimmy Buffet. Spiritual Rez is poised to be at the forefront of Boston reggae.

Up Next: The Commonwealth, Dirty Blonde featuring Cheryl Aruda, and Pumpkin Head Ted

OK, Sorry about being MIA last week. Two sick kids and a long, holiday weekend definitely got the better of me! I hope you had happy 4th of July, and that you are ready to dance off all of those extra beers, burgers, and ice creams you ate this weekend.

The Commonwealth will be back again this Thursday. These guys played to a full house last week, and they, once again, did not disappoint. Take a trip over to Grumpy's this week to check them out. You never know who you'll see or what you'll hear.

Friday, we'll have Dirty Blonde featuring Cheryl Aruda. Click on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/dirtyblondegigs They are influenced Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin,Toni Lynn Washington, Bonnie Raitt, Sarah Vaughn, Ernestine Anderson, Robert Plant...MANY blues, funk, jazz, rock and soul musicians/vocalists.

Saturday, it's PUMPKIN HEAD TED time! Hands down, one of our favorite bands of all time. http://www.myspace.com/pumpkinheadted Acoustic, Electroacoustic, folk, reggae, whatever they play is entertaining and highly danceable.

On an entirely different note, is it me or does the Melody Tent have a few good bands playing this summer? I guess I always associated it with things like The Regeneration Tour (come on, The Human League, Belinda Carlisle, and Flock of Seagulls!?). But this week moe. (http://www.myspace.com/moe) is playing on Thursday and Friday. The on 7/18 Gov't Mule (http://www.mule.net/). And 8/2 Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival (http://www.derektrucks.com/index.html) . It will be very cool to see these bands play in a small venue like the Melody Tent rather than the huge festivals. Hope to see you there!

Up Next: The Commonwealth

They will be back again on Thursday, so if you haven't stopped by to hear this great band, you are missing out! They put on another excellent, high-energy show last Thursday and will continue to play at Grumpy's each Thursday this month.

Due to the 4th of July, there will not be a band playing this Friday. Instead of getting stuck in traffic after the fireworks, how about stopping in for a pint and a game of pinball or pool?

Saturday, Random Axe is back! More about them tomorrow...

Sweet Melissa, Memphis Rockabilly Band, The Commonwealth This Week at Grumpy's

There's a little bit of everything this week at Grumpy's.

Tuesday Night is Dart Night at Grumpy's. Come on in with a couple friends and go head to head (or drink for drink...) with other like-minded folks. While you wait, there are always pool tables and a eclectic juke box to keep you occupied!

Thursday nights this summer, come on down and see The Commonwealth. They played a great gig last Thursday - their first time on stage at the Pub. This is a young band, and they have a great sound and a fun, energetic following. Come on down and support these guys! No Cover.

Friday Night we are taking a break from the blues and heading off in a different direction - The Memphis Rockabilly Band is in town for their first gig at Grumpy's. http://www.memphisrockabillyband.com/ Check back in a day or so for a feature on this great, entertaining band.

Saturday Night we welcome back Sweet Melissa with Chris "Stovall" Brown. http://www.myspace.com/sweetmelissawithchrisstovallbrown “…everything from softly swinging jazzy ballads to rip-roaring Texas blues-rock, and Sweet Melissa’s slightly smoky alto handles it all with aplomb. If there is one unifying feature to their sound, it is that she tends to give everything she sings a Memphis soul flavor, as if she were the last link to the days of Stax-Volt Records and Al Green and Little Milton were her musical ancestors. …her vocal the perfect mixture of grit and honey …the smooth soul in (her) delivery was magnificent." PATRIOT LEDGER, JAN 1, 2007

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Looking for something to do tonight?

Come on down to the Pub and check out Silent Mind. Playing tonight at 9:30pm with no cover!! Here's what some folks have to say about this band from Burlington, VT:

"Burlington Vermont based rock trio Silent Mind has been creating quite a stir in the Northeast. After years of touring, the band has settled into it what has become an original power rock trio with the ability to bring an exciting and powerful energy to any crowd or venue. By crossing modern and classic rock, the band creates a sound that is tight, sincere, and heavy hitting which they have branded "Collage Rock". Recently, the trio has been touring and hosting a series of special events to celebrate the release of their debut album "2012 Here We Come" released in November on Chakra-5-Records. The record has been a great success with impressive disc sales, fan requests, and attention from regional media. The recent success has proven Silent Mind is a major player in the music scene and shows no signs of slowing down.Silent Mind is lead by New Jersey native and Berklee College of Music graduate Jamie Bright on lead guitar and vocals, Jon "sizzle chest" Rizzo on smooth bass, and Boston boy Jay Baskowski holding it down on drums. Together the three make the most of every opportunity, making friends and memories at each and every show. Their antics and openness is contagious and their musicianship and professionalism is respected. Silent Mind uses music as the tool that connects them to the audience in helping to create a euphoric mental state for the audience as well as themselves, where problems disappear and the only thing that matters is making the next moment as good as the last, we call this "Silent Mind"."
