Sweet Melissa With Chris "Stovall" Brown TONIGHT after the Med Hedz kick off the Jimmy Gahan Foundation Benefit!!

There is a lot going on at The Pub this weekend! It is time again for our big benefit for the Jimmy Gahan Foundation (www.jimmygahan.org/) . It is hard to believe that this is the 6th year for this event. Through the tireless work of the Gahan family and countless friends and volunteers, over $115,000 has been raised for scholarships and gifts to youth sports and youth activities in several communities including Falmouth, Mashpee & Dudley, Massachusetts.
2008 could be the biggest fundraiser yet with donations of signed baseballs, art, restaurant certificates, antiques and jewelry.

This event kicks off this afternoon with the great local entertainers The Med Hedz. There will be food available and the preview of the silent auction items will begin about 5pm.

The Foundation is very close to establishing 3 permanent endowments so that the work of the Jimmy Gahan Charitable Foundation can continue throughout the foreseeable future. Click here for the official schedule and a list of auction items: http://www.jimmygahan.org/fundraising.htm
If you wish to participate through a donation of goods, services or certificates please contact Jim Gahan at 508-540-1266 or Sue Hanley at 508-524-4181.

As if that weren't enough, Sweet Melissa with Chris Stovall Brown are back in Falmouth for their monthly gig at Grumpy's! There are a bunch of FREE tickets available around Falmouth and Woods Hole (Coffee O's, Woods Hole Market, West Falmouth Market, Daily Brew...) or there is a $5.00 cover at the door.

Luke James and the Firewater Band

OK - so this weekend's amazing line up continues tonight with local favorites Luke James and the Firewater band.

They describe themselves as playing "...a scorching fusion of reggae bounce, soul sensiblity, hip hop delivery and punk rock energy. They are simply the most exciting original band on Cape Cod."

And from the promo for their excellent album, Absolutely:

"Luke James has been writing songs pretty much since he could talk. He spent a few years making beats and producing local rappers on the Cape, while secretly writing his own songs. When he finally got the nerve to sing them at a local open mic the response blew him away. Before he knew it he was playing shows and recording with a band he put together. After the first line up broke up Luke focused on keeping his music out there by selling a compilation CD of him and other local artists and performing solo, the way he started. It was only a matter of time before he found himself again surrounded by insanely talented musicians and playing in a band again. This album is the product. They are a Cape Cod based band that plays in Boston and the surrounding areas but looking to expand around the world. Enjoy."
Come on down tonight - Show starts about 9:30pm. There is a $5. cover at the door.

Special Appearance By Spiritual Rez on Thursday!!

Infectious. Soulful. Reggae. Funk. Horns. Really? What else do you need?

I can't wait to see these guys (and girls!) live at Grumpy's on Thursday. We are so fortunate to have them play a rare Cape appearance.

Sprung from the basements of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA in 2003, Spiritual Rez, known for their unique sound and high-energy live performances, have been writing music, touring tirelessly, and just independantly released their second album "Rising In The East". Not just another Berklee bred reggae ensemble, Spiritual Rez combines raw energy with funk melodies and rhythmic harmonies to create a full, lush and unique sound. Rez has played with the likes of Gregory Isaacs, Israel Vibration, The Skatalites, the late Joseph Hill and Culture, S.O.J.A., and even played sold out shows with Jimmy Buffet. Spiritual Rez is poised to be at the forefront of Boston reggae.

The Ramblin' Souls TONIGHT!

Is it really August already?! Hard to believe the summer is flying by... There is always great music to be heard at Grumpy's, but this next week is really exceptional. Starting things off tonight, we have a great band from Boston playing their first gig at Grumpy's. The Ramblin' Souls were recommended to us by our good friends (waving to John and Denise! ) from Quincy. Click on the post title whichs links to their myspace page to listen to a few songs. Here is how they describe themselves:

Blue-collar blues and railroad Rock n Roll are what the Ramblin' Souls are all about. Their wide range of musical influences include: Americana, Old School Blues, Country, 50s & 60s Rock n Roll, a little Grateful Dead, and a healthy dose of Chuck Berry. It is this influential melting-pot that makes them a rare band on the Boston scene. The Souls' tight, live sound and high energy shows keeps their fans hungry enough to come out week after week and tear up the dance floor. Look out for the Ramblin' Souls as they roll through your town.

Tomorrow night: George Gritzbach

Thursday, 8/7: Spiritual Rez (This is going to be a kick ass show!)

Friday, 8/8: Local Fave Luke James and the Firewater Band.
